A promontory unique in the world with a wonderfully varied coastline all waiting to be discovered.
One of the natural characteristics that makes Argentario a unique place in the world is the coast, varied and to be explored. Following the coast along the promontory means admiring a whole series of creeks, also very hidden, caves and islets as well as beaches that are sometimes only accessible from the sea and therefore rarely crowded. A great advantage that Argentario offers is that of being able to choose a bay on the basis of the weather conditions: firstly, you should observe from which direction the wind is blowing and then choose the south coast in the event of winds coming from the north or the north coast in the case of winds approaching from the south. Unfamiliar with the science of winds? Simply ask the old sea dogs that you will undoubtedly meet near the port: they will certainly give you some good advice.
The north coast, where the hotel is situated, alternates between high lying and rocky stretches and low, sandy and pebbly beaches, always easy to reach: from east to west, we encounter I Bagni di Domiziano, at the foot of the ruins of a roman villa; Soda, Pozzarello, where the Baia d’Argento is located, Bionda, protected by a barrier of rocks, Cantoniera, Moletto and Caletta, these last three practically at Porto Santo Stefano.
Proceeding along the west coast, from north to south, we encounter parts of the coast that are even higher and sometimes very steep, hiding atmospheric and breath-taking coves. To name but a few: Cala Grande, also visible from the panoramic road that skirts the promontory, is also the one that is most frequented by boats; Cala del Gesso, right in front of the Argentarola islet is one of the most beautiful ones; Mar Morto, a challenge to reach on foot but always worth it with its natural pools that have formed thanks to a rocky barrier; Cannelle is located close to the tower of the same name. On the south side of Argentario, closer to Porto Ercole, we find Acqua Dolce, Spiaggia Lunga and Viste, the latter just in front of the islet.
If you are instead looking for sandy beaches with shallow waters that gently drop away, a good choice would be Giannella or Feniglia (these are the two Spits that connect Argentario to the mainland, the first to the north and the second to the south). You will find resorts at both of these and stretches of free beach.
